HAPPY NEW YEAR 2010 SEASON

2010 season has started with the opening of the Tay Salmon season on 15 January. So far there appears to have been a good spread of "Springers" landed and returned on the various river beats throughout the Tay system.

I would imagine that some of these fish will be in Loch Tay and this could be a productive venue over the next few weeks and months.

I would try the West end of the loch, flatline trolling using tomic lures, kynochs should be the order of the day.  One of the prized colours on the Tay system is a 4" or 5" pearly/pink tomic however, I would also give a white kynoch a swim.  Spend time in areas of drop offs and at mouths of burns and river.  These fish tend to be around 8 feet down, so hogging the shoreline is the order of the day.

I have not had any reports of fish from the loch as yet, surprising but there are no guarentees in fishing.

If anyone is fortunate to hook and land a spring salmon I would encourage that these are returned safely to the water  inline with TDSFB recommendations.

The sport has been slow to start. So far this season I have managed to land 4 ferox trout biggest at an estimated weight of 12lbs taken on the downrigger using a tomic lure. I tried to photograph the fish in the net but as the wind was blowing it was rather difficult to control the boat and picture the fish. Just one of those things when you are out fishing on your own. There have been plenty of escapee rainbows taking the lures with the biggest at around the 6lbs mark. I will be out fishing this coming weekend so hopefully I will manage to post some pictures.

Not a lot to report from opening day. A few escapee rainbows caught. One hit on the downrigger from a most probable ferox trout. Overall had a great day trolling Scotland's lochs

Opening Day Tommorow

Tomorrow is the opening day of the 2009 trout season. I wish all anglers tight lines and best wishes for the season.

I will be out trolling on the opening day. Lets hope that the fish like the lures as much as I like them.

There are now 2 days to go the opening of the 2009 season. Lets hope the weather stays reasonable for Sunday 15th March.

Tommorow I will be getting the boat etc, ready for my 1st trip of the season on Sunday.
